The registration form for Carpinteria Education Foundation’s summer school is now available!  Please fill it out and return it to Carpinteria High School or you can fax it to (805) 566-1647.

 Higher Standard Education will be holding discounted small group prep courses for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and Essay Writing.  These courses are open to all students from Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Goleta, Santa Ynez, and the rest of the Tri-counties.

There are now 24 days left before the June 6th SAT (31 days before the June 13th ACT).  This will be your last chance before the Fall to take these college entrance exams.  If you feel like you need any SAT or ACT tutoring prior to these test dates please contact us at (805) 298-2094 or info@hstutoring.com.  We have tutors in Santa Barbara, Goleta, Montecito, Los Olivos, and Carpinteria.  Good luck to all students and just remember…summer is almost here!!!

The Carpinteria Education Foundation will be hosting summer school at Carpinteria High School from June 15th to July 17th, and Higher Standard Education has been selected to run the test preparation program!  We will be offering small group classes for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and Essay writing.  This is a great opportunity to take a small group class at a very reduced price.  The Carpinteria Education Foundation will also be hosting a wide variety of other classes from “Cooking Italian Style” to “Digital Photography”.  This summer program is open to all students in Santa Barbara, Carpinteria, Goleta, and the rest of the Tri-Counties.  Registration forms should be out by the beginning of next week.  Please contact Tim at (805) 298-2094 or tim@hstutoring.com for more details.

This interesting article by the Washington Post takes a look at the “admissions gap” between students from high-income households compared to students from low-income households.  It shows that students who can afford the programs such as SAT prep and college counseling are given a greater advantage in the admissions process. “SAT scores march up by about 30 to 50 points for every $20,000 in family income.”  This failure to maintain a level playing field for admissions has led many colleges to begin to reconsider entrance exam requirements.

The University of California school system had the lowest acceptance rate for freshman since 2000. The good news is that all students academically qualified for a UC will get in a UC school. Just not necessarily their first choice. UC regents have stated the freshman enrollment reduction is due to insufficient state funding. Check out this article for more information.

As the school year wraps up, many of you will be taking the SAT, ACT, and AP tests in May and June. These tests will play an important role in your college application process. Let us know if you would like any help in preparing for any of these tests. Whether you just need a few sessions to learn some of the test-taking strategies or want to do a complete program, we will customize a test preparation gameplan for you.

Higher Standard Education will be offering a FREE diagnostic practice SAT and ACT test on Sunday, April 19th 2009 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Santa Barbara Central Library.

We will be administering both a real full-length SAT and ACT test and then send each student a detailed score report outlining strengths and weaknesses.  We have two separate rooms reserved (one for the SAT and one for the ACT). This is open to all high school students whether you are registered for one of our programs or not. This is great practice the upcoming May and June tests.
